Pakistan rejects 'baseless' CSPA list




Now the u.s state department has added  pakistan and turkey to its child  soldiers prevention atlas the list  includes governments that have used  children as members of forces and its  designated countries  and could in fact face some strict  sanctions on military assistance from  the united states  the day after pakistan was added to this  list by the u.s state department in its  annual trafficking in persons report  pakistan has categorically rejected this  decision  and has termed it as unsubstantiated and  completely baseless  in a statement pakistan's foreign office  spokesperson has said  that it does not support any entity that  uses  child soldiers in pakistan and islamabad  is also furious that it was not  consulted before the publication  of this damning report expressing  displeasure  it maintained that pakistan was  committed towards fighting this menace  both at national  and international levels it also  highlighted  that pakistan had been voluntarily  submitting information for  trafficking in persons report to the us  government since 2007  and had actively worked on implementing  the recommendations of these reports  in a major setback for pakistan's prime  minister imran khan  the united states has added pakistan to  its child soldiers prevention  act list a designation that could lead  to strict sanctions on military  assistance  and the country's participation in  peacekeeping programmes  turkey has also been added to the list  by the u.s state department  in its annual trafficking persons report  the state department under the u.s child  soldiers prevention act  releases an annual list of foreign  governments that have recruited  or used child soldiers in the previous  year  the 2021 cspa list includes pakistan  afghanistan  turkey myanmar congo iran iraq  libya mali nigeria somalia south sudan  syria venezuela and yemen  congo somalia and yemen have been on the  list since 2010.  in 2010 the cspa list identified six  governments  a decade later the numbers stood at 14  and 15 in 2021  the state department defines the term  child soldier as  any person under 18 years of age who  takes a direct part in hostilities  as a member of governmental armed forces  police or other security forces  the term child soldier also applies to a  person who is serving  in any capacity including in a support  role  such as a cook porter messenger medic  guard  or slave the cspa prohibits listed  governments to be part of us  peacekeeping programs  and also prohibits issuance of licenses  for direct commercial sales  of military equipment the restrictions  will be applied to listed governments  from the 1st of october this year and  will be effective  throughout fiscal year 2022.
