We're tracking for you this hour in the wake of rising security concerns in afghanistan's kandahar india has decided to pull out diplomats and security personnel from the city 50 indian diplomats and officials have been evacuated from afghanistan's kandahar consulates india's ministry of external affairs has issued a statement on the kandahar situation the statement clarifies that the consulate general of india in kandahar has not been closed however due to the intense fighting near the kandahar city india-based personnel have been brought back for the time being the evacuation is said to be a temporary measure as the taliban made inroads into the province earlier this week the consulate continues to operate through local staff members now we spoke to the spokesperson for the governor of kandahar province on the ongoing situation at the indian consulate the spokesperson bahir ahmadi has assured that the indian consulate in kandahar is open and safe with local staff members still working from the kandahar region second i can tell you uh sure that the place where the indian consulate is located is safe and sound and there is no problem but yeah four and five days uh the situation was a little bit critical and the fighting was near at least three kilometers far away from the indian consulate due to some circumstances uh the indian consulate have decided that they should take out their diplomats to the kabul but the local workers or the local staff which were proceed which is making the facility for the procedure of the visa and other facilities they are still here the indian consulate is still open and whenever you know we can say that the procedure is going very normally the war-ravaged country is struggling to find its way out of adversity with the nato and u.s troops marching out of the country india is keeping a close eye on the volatile situation in the neighboring country kandahar is the second largest city in afghanistan that has been strategically and commercially significant kandahar has served as the headquarters of the taliban from the mid-1990s until 2001 when the group was ousted from power by the u.s.
