Antarctica logs the highest temperature on record




Now scientists at the united nations have now recorded the hottest ever temperature reading in Antarctica the world meteorological organization announced on Thursday that the new record for the maximum temperature for the southernmost continent is now 18.3 degrees Celsius or 64.9  degrees Fahrenheit this surpasses the previous high of 17.5  degrees celsius in march of 2015.  the reading was taken on the 6th of  February at Argentina's Esperanza  station in the antarctic's trinity  peninsula  now the announcement comes during the  same week as blistering unprecedented  heatwave scorches the pacific northwest  and British Columbia  a new all-time national record high in  Canada  three days in a row the dramatic surge  in global temperatures has sparked  concerns worldwide  the year 2020 was the hottest on record  globally after 2016  with the decade of the 2010s now  classified as being the hottest decade  ever since measurements began  the Antarctica along with the arctic is  seen as playing an important role in  driving global climate change and sea-level rise  scientists have blamed human-induced  climate change  for being the triggering force in  bringing the temperature spike across  the region  according to experts the antarctic  peninsula is among the fastest-warming regions on the planet this  highly vulnerable region has witnessed a  rise of almost  three degrees celsius in just the last  five decades.
