How technology is empowering musicians

Technology is empowering musicians in  unimaginable ways  they are turning to new edge tech to design instruments for disabled people  composers are using artificial  intelligence to create a new musical  experience  our next story is about one such young  talent she can play music with her eyes  don't believe me watch it for yourself  alexandra calidus sits in her wheelchair  on stage in  athens with only the shift of her eyes  across a computer screen  the 21 year old fills the air with harp  music  alexandra has cerebral palsy so she  cannot use her hands or  speak but the talented musician is  playing the ihorp  a gaze-controlled digital software which  allows people with disabilities to play  the digital eye tracking technology  widely used in gaming  security and medicine monitors eye  movements to perform commands  the eye rests on each musical note  spaced out on a wheel on the screen  on average it can play three to four  notes per second  the program actually has sound  recordings of 25  musical instruments but it's not easy to  perform  it needs discipline and concentration as  one has to keep the eyes from wandering  too  quickly to the next note  computer scientist and musician  zacharias van vakusis  is the man behind it he was inspired to  create the program after a musician  friend was hurt in a motorcycle accident  shortly before they were to play a  concert together  he has taught a program in special needs  schools in barcelona where he studied  and says more than 2 000 people have  the program  the program is also designed for those  with musical dystrophy  limb amputation quadriplegia or spinal  cord injury  the innovation comes as a ray of hope  for many musicians as they say where there's a will there's  a way.
