Carbon Dioxide reaches its highest level in more than 4million years

Despite a halt in commercial activity for the past 15 months due to covet 19 pandemic the amount of carbon in the earth's atmosphere has reached its highest level in modern history now researchers from the national oceanic and atmospheric administration or noaa and the scripps institute of oceanography have said that the amount of carbon dioxide in the air at noaa's weather station in hawaii was the highest since measurements began some 63 years ago now according to the latest report the level of co2 peaked in may 2021 reaching a monthly average of nearly 419 parts per million breaching the earlier record of 417 parts per million in may 2020 the measurement called the calling curve is a global benchmark for atmospheric carbon levels and helps to track any dip or rise in amount of carbon dioxide in the air according to experts the level of carbon in the air now is as much as it was about four million years ago a time when sea level was nearly 24 meters higher than it is today carbon dioxide is the key driver of climate change and the finding suggests that reducing the use of fossil fuels reducing deforestation and implementing strategic plans to reduce carbon emissions must be a top priority for governments worldwide to avoid future catastrophe.
