52 years old  jagit singh is a shopkeeper selling  spices  and sending money to his wife and  children who live in india  singh is one of the three remaining  sikhs in the eastern city of host  where hundreds of hindu and sikh  families were leaving before the war  in the country singh says that if peace  comes to the country  his family and other hindu families who  currently live in india  would return to the city may god bring  peace we all hindus would return right  now we are about three hindus living in  host  sometimes we are five or eight they come  from india for the village  the village of premnagar or house of  love  was home to most of the hindu and sikh  families in the city  who fleed their houses during the civil  war  in the 1990s now a few visit  the village only to collect the rents  when the hindus come they get the rent  money for six months or a year  when the lease contracts end they come  back get the rent of six months or a  year and leave  hindus and sikhs say that their worship  places in the city were  destroyed during the civil war and their  houses and lands  were grabbed by others the afghan  government  vows that it will return all their  properties  a number of cases are in the courts and  they are taken care of  some have already handed their lands  back  and now they own their lands  once thriving minorities in afghanistan  the population of sikhs and hindus  has shrunk from about 250 000  to hundreds because of the ongoing war  in the country.
